    Olean is not a large town, but the library is a gem. The building is not historic, tending to the utilitarian, but they have a lot of books. They don't throw out the old ones just because they are rarely checked out, it is not wall-to-wall computers and "media", there is no Starbucks establishment, the kiddie department is great, and the clean restrooms date from 1963 (est., based on the tile). The staff is friendly and helpful, the internet works, they have the NY Times on microfilm dating to the early part of the past century, it is quiet and there are lots of people using it. In fact, it is a real library.
